In fastpitch softball, how can you increase your pitching speed?
Is your fastball not up to par? In fastpitch softball, there’s a way to learn how to boost pitching speed.
One of the most crucial things for softball pitchers to acquire is how to increase pitching speed in fastpitch softball. Its obvious benefits are obvious, but success in this activity is not always easy.
Hopefully, you’re familiar with the fundamentals of pitching. Make sure you don’t rush through your pre-pitching warm-up so you can loosen up your midsection appropriately.
When things go awry, you concentrate and keep relaxed to avoid tightening your muscles. To throw a faster pitch, you must keep your pitching arm flexible.
Of course, you must remember the fundamentals as well. In fact, you might wish to refresh your knowledge of the essentials.
You’ll need a complete body lean without bending at the waist, as well as a strong push-off and stride toward home plate.
As you rotate, you must open your body and then close it strongly as you draw your shoulders back to stand tall as you release the pitch.

Here are some of the most successful drills for learning how to throw faster fastpitch softball pitches.
Pitching from a long distance. This is the only drill you’ll ever need to learn. Nothing compares to this in terms of increasing not just your speed but also your control.
After you’ve adequately warmed up, you can take a 2 or 3 foot step back after each pitch. You’ll have to toss for a longer distance till you’re so far away from the catcher that you can barely throw to him.
You can then take a step forward till you reach the rubber again. After that, you’ll be able to fire 15 to 20 fastball pitches.
Balls that are heavier. Weighted balls can help you gain strength and improve your pitching speed.
You must, however, exercise extreme caution. You must fully warm up before using this technique, and you cannot misuse it. You can damage yourself if you aren’t cautious enough.
These weighted softballs are available in standard sizes, however they can weigh up to 12 ounces instead of the standard 6.25 ounces.
At initially, you should use a 9-ounce ball. As you gain strength, you can move to a heavier ball, such as the 10- or 11-ounce variety, if it gets too easy.
Underweight balls can also be used for speed training. These can be used to help you perfect your fundamentals before switching to the overweight softballs and practicing with the regulation balls.
Drill using only one knee. Kneel on your pitching-side knee while keeping your torso straight as you face home plate to improve your upper body strength and pitching speed.
Then, while in this position, throw 30 full-blast fastballs. If you throw swiftly against a fence, you can do this without a catcher.
Drills to improve speed. These are completed at the conclusion of practice. The practice challenges you to pitch 15 times at maximum speed without a windup, and you must complete the pitches as rapidly as possible.
This is easier with two softballs since the catcher may swiftly send the ball to the pitcher. The 15 pitches and throwbacks can be completed in under a minute, or even 45 seconds, if done correctly.
After you’ve completed those 15 pitches, take a minute to rest before repeating the process. At the very least, you should be able to complete four sets of 15 pitches. Do another set until you’re exhausted, then finish with a final one.
Always keep in mind that a fastball is just one of your pitching options. You’ll need more pitches in your arsenal as a pitcher if you want to succeed. A quick pitch, on the other hand, clearly helps!
